London

The original reason we decided to go to London was to see a concert. Why fly all the way to England for a concert? Why not?! And what an amazing trip it was, not only did we get to see Steps on their Gold: Greatest Hits Tour (only a few weeks before they officially broke up), but we got to all the sights in the amazing city of London. And what an amazing place it is.

Our first day was spent mostly trying to find our hotel while carring our bags of luggage and trying not to aggrevate each other after a 12 hour sleepless flight. Once we got settled, our mood improved and we took to the streets, traversing Hyde Park, walking passed Princess Diana's London home, and shopping through Knightsbridge.

We had a marathon walk on our second day, seeing Big Ben, Parliment, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace by lunch. Then we walked down through Trafalger Square to the heart of London's shopping district, Piccadilly Circus. At last, we find the Virgin Megastore! We spent an hour and a half and $100. Brit pop heaven. We continued through Piccadilly, walking up through Soho and passed the Royal Opera House.

On the third day, we decided to go over to see the Tower of London. This is the old castle that the Kings and Queens used to live in. Today it is a museum, but it also holds the Crown Jewels, which were absolutely stunning. If you walk the outside of the castle along the Thames you come to Tower Bridge. It is quite an amazing structure, and quite crowded with cars as this is the heart of downtown London. That evening we took the Jack the Ripper walk, through the erie streets of Whitechapel.

On our forth and final full day, we decided to take it easy. We walked up to Baker Street and went through Madam Tousaud's Wax Museum. The wax sculptures were amazing, a few times we thought they would just come to life. In fact, we even confused one for a real person. Unfortunately, Madam Tousaud's Rock Circus was closed for business. We did get to see a lot on this trip, it was hard to believe we packed it all in. Next time, we plan to go explore the countryside.

steps
To finish our trip, we got to see Steps live in concert! After four years, three albums, and 15 singles, it was about time. And they did not disappoint. It was high energy, great music, and they gave fantastic performances. They are truly Top of the Pops.
