Our third stop on the tour was our second stop on the Big Island, Kona. The beautiful city made an immediate positive impression on all of us with its rugged coral beaches and compact downtown. Perhaps being on the dryer side with more moderate weather and also a bit more “touristy” made it a more attractive port. But, nevertheless we all declared this to be a definite spot to explore again. | |||||

In the morning, Erich and I took a tour that included coffee (at least for Erich) at the Royal Kona Coffee Company, beautiful murals at the Painted Church, and Kahaluu Beach Park where we had a close encounter with a sea turtle. |

Upon our return from the tour, we made a stop at the ship sponsored tourist trap Hilo Hatties. Afterwards, Erich and I skipped the free pier shuttle and decided to explore downtown Kona on foot. We had lunch at the Hard Rock Café (overlooking the harbor) and then walked along the coral beach water front. After returning from their day at the beach, we met up with my mom and sis for, what else?, more shopping. Our day ended as we took our shuttle boat to the ship and made it back just in time for dinner with a beautiful sunset view. |
