Our excurtion at this port was to go on a bike ride. After a 20 minute drive, we were given bikes, helmets and gloves, then took off on our ride. The first stop was at a salmon fishery where we saw a huge salmon in this corale. The picture doesn't do the 3 foot salmon justice. The ride wasn't too rough, but, we did have to strip off our jackets as we did get a little hot. We traveled about six miles interior along the Alaska Highway. This is a loose term as the "highway" isn't much more than a dirt & gravel road. |

Once back in Ketchikan, we took a walk around the city. The city had all these quaint little shops and museums, although many of the stores were full of the same merchandise we would come across on the subsequent ports. But, it was still nice to walk around the city and browse the stores. Ketchikan is also the best place to get fried halibut. For a person who hates fish to have their mouth water upon having a sample, this is definately the place to go. |
