Our stop on our world wind, two week vacation was our beloved London. It was like returning home again. Not only could we enjoy the privilege of hearing our native language, but there were convenience stores, good food, and Virgin Megastores. Though our hotel last time wasn’t bad, we decided to try a different one. And though we did trade up a little, aside from the great location, it wasn’t the best. In fact, the bed was by far the worst we had. But, we were much closer to central London and the train accessibility couldn’t be beat. Our first day, we took a walk to Hyde Park to see the new Princess Diana Memorial Fountain, went shopping at Picadilly, saw the Vivienne West exhibit, and enjoyed a movie at Leicester Square. |

Day two in London, we decided to head to downtown London. Much had been done since were last there, including a brand new open square at the Tower of London. There was also the completion of the cone or pickle building. Not sure how else to describe it, but, it is actually a very nice, though a little bizarre, skyscraper. It matches the previously completed egg building we saw in 2001, across the River Thames. Other things had changed in London too, including the proliferation of Starbucks, much to Erich’s delight, but, unfortunately, for a second time in a row, I could not convince Erich to ride the Millenium Ferris Wheel. It just means we have to go back! |
